Biker Attitude

Not Taking His Name?

Most sentimental guys have a strong opinion about you taking his last name.

Make sure to discuss this with him throughly if you consider keeping your present name. Else, you might get some biker attitude!

The majority of new brides today continue to take their new husband’s last name. There is something romantic about it and is one step towards becoming “one”.

In the US, the first thing you should to do is apply for a name change with the Social Security Office. Once you receive your new card, go change your driver’s license.

The older you get, the more things you will have to change. Financial records, utility bills, auto insurance, just to name a few.

I highly recommend that you buy a kit to help you with all of the details. In the United States, since 9/11, it has become difficult to just “use” a name without making it legal. For instance, in the state of Ohio, the name on your drivers license must match the name on your social security records or you can’t renew it.

Don’t do what I did. I thought I would hyphen our names on my license and gradually over the next couple of years, change all the other legal stuff. To make a long story short, I messed around so long, eventually I ended up having to take the road test again. After 25 years, taking that test again was painful!

Buy a kit to make things easier on yourself. Get all the legal stuff done quick and put it behind you. Sure wish I had!

Changing your name couldn’t be easier when you use the Bride Name Change Kit online service at

If you or your new hubby still write checks, you may want to consider Harley-Davidson® checks with your new name on them. Checkbook covers and address labels are also available to match the checks.
